God does not want His children to adapt to their circumstances; He wants them to overcome their circumstances and have victory over them. The word overcome means to get the better of in a struggle or conflict. It means to overwhelm and overpower. The word adapt means to adjust or modify according to the circumstances we face. Americans are the best adapters in the world. We have a saying here in America that if you give me lemons I will make lemonade. But in the Kingdom of God it is different. If a kingdom man or woman is given lemons he or she can use God’s Word and their faith to change the lemons into whatever he or she needs them to be. Nowhere in the Bible are we told to adapt and modify our behavior, thinking or expectations to suit the circumstances we face in life. Let’s start in I John 5:4. (4) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Here we see victory is available in two realms. When we are born again we overcome Satan, death, and hell. This victory takes place in the spiritual world. Now we need to bring that victory into the realm in which we live: the natural world and we accomplish that victory by using the force of faith. Glory to God, victory is available to us spiritually and physically. I want to look at an instance of adapting instead of overcoming. Lets look in Mark 5:24-29. 24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. 25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, 26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. 29 And straightway (immediately) the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. This woman adapted to her circumstances for 12 years by going from one doctor to another. She finally spent all her money and never got any better. She must have been very rich for it to take 12 years spend all her money. Finally, someone told her about Jesus and she acted accordingly and something she had been adapting to for 12 years was immediately overcome by the virtue that flowed out of Jesus when she touched His clothes. Do not allow the circumstances you face cause you to adapt to them. Overcome them with the power of God. God bless.
